Sunday Sundries--Adult Edition

Warning! Not for the easily offended....

My mama was fierce. As I get older, I find I'm more and more like her and that scares me. She wasn't afraid of dropping the F bomb for shock value and admitted to me that she knew exactly when I was conceived and proceeded to tell me. Ewww at any age.

So, here are a few things that would have made Mom laugh:

In my job doing tech support, I have to call on all of my patience and politeness when people are using technology that, um, they're not capable of understanding.

This photo was titled "Consequences." Mom admitted they were really lucky I didn't have more brothers and sisters. Double Ewwww.

Mom would have loved this one too, showing it to all of her friends.

We had tons of books around and I was blessed that I was read to all the time. I can see this on her shelf, next to Go the Fuck to Sleep.

Finally, Mom had both breasts removed at age 75. I really admired her bravery. This is something I would have stitched and framed for her if Subversive Cross-Stitch had been designing when she went through her surgery:

Sunday Sundries--Bigger and Better

This week, I'm going to be working an early schedule. While I'm used to being up until 3 am, now I have to be in at work at 10 am. It's only for four days, but it's a change. Some change is good, right?

So, I've actually done some writing this week too. I've been transcribing my notebooks on my lunch hour and got a bunch of pages into a program called OneNote. The program lets you organize things in folders and subfolders. I can sort my quotes into subjects, I can organize my character notes and get thoughts and ideas into sections for the different books I have planned by my timeline. I can move subtopics to new subjects. By going through my notebooks, I'm excited and inspired to get back to actually writing.

I want to talk about books and reading, since both topics have been so important in my life. Here are a few things to share:

I resemble that remark. I've been staying inside during this heat wave. My poor husband works for a TV station and had to be outside working on a golf tournament that was held locally. Ugh! On top of the heat, he had two dozen spider bites all over his leg and torso. Poor thing. But, being inside means I did get some writing done, though I did spend too much time on Facebook, Pinterest, etc.

Butt in chair, right?

At least wait until Tuesday to give up.

My "real life job" is tech support. I've used transcribing my notes as a way to increase my typing speed and it has helped. But, I talk to these folks all the time:

Sunday Sundries--A Little of This and That

Just going through and finding a ton of new stuff. Actually, it's time I should spend writing. Started writing again last night after almost a two week dry spell. Got obsessed and blocked over this one part of Rob and Mary Margaret's story, before I realized I didn't have to write it. It could just be "background," with anything important referred to briefly the next day.

And that's how I roll. Will do more writing than "pinning" on Pinterest in this next week, I promise.

So, anyway, a sister-in-law posted this and I loved it. One of the highlights of my local science fiction group membership was organizing a trip to hear Sagan speak.

What else did I find? Oh yeah--

Another truth. Got really good at handling stress there for a while. Hope we don't have to re-learn that lesson ever again.

Found some great treats at a little used bookstore this week. Love rummaging through shelves. Though my husband ate all the M&M dark chocolate with peanuts bag.

So, it's been a while since I've posted any man candy. A twofer of an obsession of mine.

Have a happy Father's Day! Just got to visit with my awesome father in-law and several others in my husband's family who are good fathers. They are a blessed breed.

Here's a wonderful picture taken of my father back in the 1930s. It has a piece at the bottom where you can stand it up.

While my dad passed in 2001, I still think of him often, especially when my husband or I do something that channels him.

One of my favorite memories is a handwritten note in my baby book from Dad, where he said he loved me very much.

Isn't that a great picture to give as a gift?

One of my characters is the father of twins. Love this one.

This made me laugh--I'm such a fan girl.

For those who do not want to be fathers.

For those who have fur babies and grandkitties. My parents carried pictures of our cats with photos of their grandchildren. They knew that was all they were getting from us.

Sunday Sundries--A Pocketful of Snark

Now, in my "Real Life" job, I do technical support on the phone. I have to be very careful with my voice tone, because people can't see if I'm joking or being sarcastic. A guy I used to know drew up a sign that he held up to let everyone know he was joking, his sense of humor was so dry. While I'm not that bad, it was very easy to quickly find a bunch of things that were a celebration of snark.

Please. Just asking for you to cut me some slack.

True more often than not.

Sad, but true. I gave those traits to one of my characters. Unfortunately, some of my filters get dislodged when I'm tired or under stress.

Most of my friends share my skewed view of life too.

But, this is something Elizabeth would definitely say.
